Leonard A. Kytola, 81, Silver Bay, died Thursday, January 5, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1935 to Aimo and Grenneth (Rostveit) Kytola in Floodwood. During his childhood (WW II era) he lived in many different locations throughout the United States. After graduating from Floodwood High School in 1952, he worked as a heavy equipment operator with the 49'ers for 5 years, then worked at Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay for 30 years until retiring in 1986 as a millwright. In “retirement” he worked at Sears in Duluth for several years and returned to college to earn a Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota – Duluth.
Leonard was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church, Silver Bay. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, working in his garage, and coffee with his buddies at Northwoods Café.
He is survived by; a daughter, Stacey (Steve) Ramaeker; a son, Thomas Kytola; brothers, Wayne and Lowell Kytola; sisters, Annette Haward and Susan Arfman; and grandchildren, Krysten Kytola and Taylor Ramaeker.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be at a later date at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
