Leon R. Hudson, 75, of Two Harbors, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Diamond Willow Lester River.
He was born on June 4, 1938 to Leo "Pearl" and Blanche (Runge) Hudson in Sleepy Eye, MN. Leon graduated from high school in St. James before attending Mankato St. University and later UMD, earning a Master's degree in education. He worked as a high school math teacher for Lake Superior School District from 1960 until his retirement in 1994. Summers he enjoyed logging with his partner, Dennis Herschbach. After retiring from the school he operated Hudson Aggregates. Leon was a member of the volunteer ambulance squad for 10 years, serving a number of years as Captain and on the Community Health Clinic board.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, reading, and ball room dancing.
Leon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean; children, Jody (Dave) Sorlien of Escondido, CA, Kevin (LeAnna) of Duluth, Scott (Mary Christian) of St. Louis Park, and Mark (Susan Swigart) of Edina; grandchildren, Nick, Ben, Natalie, Isabelle, Sam, Emma, Sara, and Kate; a sister, Joanne (Joe) Gross of CA; and a nephew, Matthew Gembala of AZ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Two Harbors Ambulance Service.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday February 21, 2014 at Cavallin Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 9 AM until the 10 AM funeral on Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
