Kenneth Larson

August 5, 1927 — October 9, 2017

Kenneth C. Larson, 90, of Two Harbors died October 9th, 2017 at Ecumen Scenic Shores, Two Harbors, Mn.

He was born August 5, 1927 to Hannah and Clayton Larson in Lansing, Michigan; the oldest of three children, sister Eleanor and brother Harold.

He grew up in Mancelona, Michigan and began sailing at 16, after graduating from high school.  With a stint in the Coast Guard behind him, he married his high school sweetheart, Ernestine, and they moved to Two Harbors to continue his sailing career with the US Steel fleet … it lasted 35 years.  With Mom’s passing in April of 2017, they were just two months short of their 70th Wedding Anniversary.

Kenneth was a true Mason, joining Fortitude Lodge in 1988, then continuing with Scottish Rite and AAD Shrine.  He and mom were in charge of their pasty sale, did the annual corned beef and cabbage dinner and made and enjoyed coffee every Thursday.  Dad has been the grind organ guy with the fake mustache and faithful monkey for hundreds of parades, as well as for the Shrine Circus.  It was always about the kids…….

With mom by his side, he loved working in the flower garden and fishing walleyes at Crescent Lake in their 12 foot little green boat and their Hi-Lo Camper.  They were always a team and nothing made them happier than having their grandkids be a part of any day, be it making lefsa, hard tack, fish cakes or putting a line in the water.

He was a proud member of Emmanuel Lutheran and a past council member.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ernestine; son Jim; brother Harold, brothers-in-law Schuyler Dilts, Carl Wicker & Barney Howard Sr.; sister-in-law Margaret Howard & niece, Barbara Howard.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Gordon) Granmoe, granddaughters Geri (Tom) Murphy, Kristine (Hugh) O’Brien, grandson Jason Larson, great granddaughter Keara Murphy; sister Eleanor Dilts and sisters-in-law Kay Larson and Jennie Wicker, nephews Barney (Judy) Howard, Lyle (Vonna) Howard, David (Carolyn) Dilts, Harold (Marie) Dilts, Bruce (Jane) Dilts, Greg Larson, Ron Larson, nieces Deb Bloom, Nancy Wicker Krogmann and wonderful neighbor, Jamie Anderson.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the service at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Fortitude Lodge #l88, AAD Shrine or Emmanuel Lutheran in Two Harbors.
