Kathleen Leist

Kay Leist, 90, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Lake View Memorial Hospital.
She was born on April 8, 1925 to Samuel and Sophie (Swenson) Hastings in Two Harbors where she grew up and attended schools, graduating in 1943. During World War II she moved to California where she worked in civil service at the Port of Embarkation where military personnel departed and returned. While in California, her daughters were born and she returned with them to Two Harbors in the mid 1960’s. She was employed in Two Harbors in the clerical office at the Lake View Memorial Hospital and the later the Community Health Center for several years. In the mid 70’s, seeking warmer winters, she returned to California and was employed at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. She retired to Two Harbors in 1988.
Kay was a regular attendee of the United Church. As a younger woman she enjoyed bowling and softball, and still enjoyed watching sports on television.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Eugene “Buddy” Hastings; and a sister, Phyllis Erholtz.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Kristine (Cary) Riddell and Julie (Jim) Burek; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn “Boo” (Douglas) Christenson; and several nieces and nephews
Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday February 27, 2016 at the United Church in Two Harbors.
