Karen A. Nurmi, 88, of Beaver Bay, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in St Luke's Hospital.
She was born November 8, 1922, to Oscar and Lena (Slater) Lovold in Beaver Bay. Karen grew up, attended school and graduated from high school in Two Harbors in 1939. She lived in Seattle for several years, where she worked for Sunshine Biscuit Company. Karen returned to Beaver Bay and was employed as a clerk at the Trading Post until 1951. She married Eino Nurmi on September 14, 1951. Karen enjoyed fishing, camping, and trips to the West Coast.
She is preceded in death her parents, her husband, Eino Nurmi; brothers, Leonard, Henry and Ole Lovold; and a sister, Elizabeth Garrison
Karen is survived by her son, Charles Johnson of Beaver Bay, MN; brother- George Lovold of Annandale, MN; two granddaughters, Amy (Brad) Liska, and Angie Johnson; great-grandsons, Luke Liska, and Nathan Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 AM until the 10 AM Service Friday, December 10, 2010 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial at Beaver Bay Cemetery.
