June E. Naslund, 93, Two Harbors, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Waterview Shores Nursing Home.
June was born July 1, 1926 to John and Florence (Smith) Alnes and was raised in Schroeder, Minnesota. After graduating from Two Harbors High School in 1944, she journeyed by train to the West Coast where she became one of many “Rosie the Riveters”. Returning to Duluth, she attended Wanner’s School of Beauty Culture, receiving her diploma in 1946, and worked as a hairdresser in Duluth for a short time. In 1947 she married Bob Naslund and devoted her life to her family.
June enjoyed landscaping and gardening, planting dozens of trees around her home. Her garden held peonies, yellow dinner plate dahlias, and a large blue hosta which she aggressively defended from the deer. She was an avid baker, serving cake when her recipe rose, or bars when it fell. Her speciality was perfectly symmetrical chocolate chip cookies.
June was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and Robert Alnes; a sister, Margret Jones; and her husband of over 70 years, Bob Naslund.
She is survived by her sons, Bob Jr. (Jacky) Naslund and John (Jeannine) Naslund; a daughter, Robin Naslund (Jeff Sines); grandchildren, Erik (Anne) Naslund, Nicole (Bjorn) Ojard, Brittany (Nathan) Strudle, Emily (Paul) Culver, Benjamin (Alyssa) Sines, William (Malory) Naslund, and Whitney Naslund; great-grandchildren, Gretta and Anja Ojard, Mattea, Sullivan and Josephine Strudle, and Harlan Sines.
A private graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery.
