John Schaefer

JJohn F. Schaefer, 69, Two Harbors, died Tuesday July 1, 2014 at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

He was born on December 15, 1944 to John and Dolores (Schneider) Schaefer in Chicago, Illinois. John grew up in West Chicago, IL and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1962. He attended Lewis College and became Certified in Management from University of Illinois. He worked as a payroll manager for GTE for over 30 years until retiring in 1991. John served as a volunteer fireman in Marywood, Illinois. He married Marilyn Mazurek in 1984 and they moved to Two Harbors in 1991. John worked at Gander Mountain in Duluth, in the fishing department for over ten years, developing many close friendships. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, was a volunteer fireman in Illinois, Chief of the Alden Township Fire Department from 1991 to 2001, and his biggest interest was fishing, both fly and inland.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by his best friend and wife, Marilyn of Two Harbors; sons, John (Cheryl) and Christopher both of Chicago suburbs; sister, Sue Krisch of Chicago suburbs; grandchildren, Brendan, Jonathon, and Lily; niece, Sandy; and nephews, Mike and Tim.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.
