Joanne Johnson, 69, Silver Bay, died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Miller-Dwan Medical Centre in Duluth.
Joanne was born on February 3, 1953 to John and Theresea (Radaich) Salquist in Hibbing and grew up in Silver Bay. After graduating from William Kelley High School in 1971, Joanne married her high school sweetheart, David Johnson later that year, on October 2. They lived in Germany for two years during David’s military service before returning to Silver Bay. Joanne was employed at Zup’s Foods and later at Northshore Mining.
Joanne was an active member of the Silver Bay community, serving four years as mayor and two terms as a city council member.
Joanne was a caretaker. Her family always came first in her heart. She was everyone’s “second mother”. Her passion, her laugh, her smile, her love of life, will be dearly missed.
Family was most important to Joanne and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved cooking for a crowd and knitting.
Joanne was preceded in death by parents and sister, Sharon Clark.
She is survived by husband, David; children Amy (Chris) Seanger, Mandy (Tim) Moench, and Angela (Michael) Hoff; grandchildren Alex, Allison, Cailey, Gabi, Jaxon, Vance, Cece, Crosby, Berkley, Grady, Breckon, and Barron; a great-granddaughter, Kendall; siblings, Jerry Salquist and Jeff (Angie) Salquist; and brother-in-law, Dan Clark.
