Joanne Carlson

Joanie Carlson, 79, of Two Harbors died Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Franciscan Health Center in Duluth.
She was born on March 2, 1938 to Clarence and Clara (Smith) Claflin in Menahga, MN. Joanie grew up and attended schools in Menahga and Sebeka, then worked as a nanny in Minneapolis for a short time. She married Gary Kussatz and moved to Beaver Bay in 1958 where she worked as a housekeeper at Beaver Bay Motel and Mariner Motel for several years. In 1976, Joanie married Loren Carlson and has made her home in Two Harbors since that time.
She enjoyed crafts, jigsaw puzzles, painting, fishing, camping, watching sons’ softball games, and holidays with family.
Joanie is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Muriel, Marcella, Les, Margaret, Wayne, Gene, Chuck, Clifford, Richard, and Curt.
She is survived by her husband, Loren; sons, Boyd (Jamie) Kussatz and Bradley Kussatz of Two Harbors; step-son, Cory (Judy) Carlson of Silver Bay; grandchildren, Anthony (Christine) Sande and Aaron (Heather) Kussatz all of Two Harbors; great-grandchildren, Tyson, Ava, and Juliana; and a sister, Mary Lidtke.
Services will be at 1 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors.
