Joan Norgren

Joan, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and dawgie in the early morning of Sunday August 12th, 2018.  She was born April 20th, 1938 to Milton and Georgia Helvig of Two Harbors, MN.

Joan grew up and graduated from Two Harbors High School.   She worked at the DM & IR Railroad Telephone Company in Two Harbors for many years.  She married Merle Norgren in December of 1967 in Las Vegas, NV.  They lived and raised their family on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the Palmer’s area.

Joan worked at Sears for 27 years.  First at the downtown store, then moved to the Plaza Catalog Store, then finished up at the Mall Store when it opened.  Joan was active in Homesteaders Group, Bridge Club, and was a volunteer for the Clifton Fire Department yearly fundraiser, and  a member of the French River Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Georgia Helivg, brother-in-law Dan Hondzinski, sister-in-law Kathy Helvig.

She is survived by: Her husband of 50 years, Merle; Son Joel Norgren of Las Vegas, NV, daughter Kay (Brad) Nordren of Eden Prairie, MN; granddaughter Bre (Alex) Lau of Eden Prairie, MN; grandsons Tyler  & Riley Nordgren, of Eden Prairie, MN; sister Alice Hondzinski of Baton Rouge, LA, sister Ruth (Fred) Strohmeier of Fifty Lakes, MN, brother Dick Helvig of Punta Gorda, FL

A Celebration of Life will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Service  at French River Lutheran Church, Saturday, August 18th, 2018. All friends, neighbors, old co-workers, and community members are welcome.

Memorials may be made between French River Lutheran Church or the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
