Jay Osbakken, 57, of Two Harbors, Minnesota, passed away on September 16, 2024, after a valiant fight against a series of illnesses.
Jay was born on September 30, 1966, and graduated from Two Harbors High School (THHS) in 1985. He later graduated from WITC with a degree in accounting.
After school, Jay moved to Seattle for a few years before coming back to Two Harbors where he worked at Saint Mary’s Medical Center.
There was no secret that from a young age, Jay developed a passion for curling where he Skipped the first team from Two Harbors to go to Junior Nationals in Rochester, NY. His dedication to the sport was unwavering, He was competitive, yet he always introduced the sport to new curlers. He and his best friend Erwin were the Broom Stacking Kings. Even as he began his battle with arthritis and his other illnesses it eventually prevented him from curling. Jay remained deeply involved, staying connected with his many curling friends across the state, sharing his love for the game and his extensive knowledge of the sport.
Aside of curling, Jay spent many years doing stats for HS basketball. He enjoyed reading and playing video poker downtown while sharing stories with friends. He was very quiet and never wanted to ask for help but always appreciated those special friends that did.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, James and Valerie Osbakken.
He is Survived by sisters Deb (Jeff) McGregor, Laura (Rick) Goutermont. Brother, Rick (Judy) Osbakken; Nieces and Nephews: Travis (Teresa) Kempffer, Stephanie McGregor, Tyler McGregor, Keifer Larson, Lucas (McKenzie) Kempffer, Whitney Kempffer, Oaklee Kempffer, Alex (Duke) Gilbert, Scott Comrie, Ella Olson, Eli Willemarck, Ethan Willemarck, Courtney(Jesse) Hendrickson, Nick Osbakken, Tricia Osbakken, Carolyn Hendrickson.
Jay’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless people he touched through his passion for curling and his infectious kindness to everyone.
A private graveside service will be held for the family. A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the American Legion from 4 PM-7PM.
