James Winton “Jim” Reiten of Silver Bay, Minnesota, quietly and peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. Jim was the son of the late Herbert Reiten and Agnes Washnieski Reiten, and was born March 20, 1940 in Washburn, Wisconsin. He attended Ondossagon School, was a veteran of the United States Army, and retired from Northshore Mining. He was a member of the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay.
Jim was married to Deanne Klein Reiten on February 25, 1967 in Mason, Wisconsin. They celebrated their 50th anniversary earlier this year. Jim and Deanne have one son, Trevor James Reiten.
Jim enjoyed being outdoors, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. From the award-winning bucks mounted in his home to the first place ribbons for the bounty from his garden, his efforts and work ethic always paid off. Everyone who knew and loved Jim knows that he loved life and loved staying active. He was never one to sit still for more than a few minutes at a time. He was a relentless card player and storyteller, and his family has had much laughter through the tears as they reminisced about the tales he had to tell.
His amazing life and unwavering support will forever be cherished by his wife Deanne, as well as their son, Trevor and daughter-in-law Bobbie Reiten of Andover, MN; grandchildren Hannah Nevels of Hope Mills, NC, and Hal Nevels of Minneapolis, MN; brothers Wayne Reiten, Melvin (Annie) Reiten, Ozzie (Kathy) Reiten, and Herb Reiten all of Mason, WI; sisters Fran (Gary) Steen of Ashland, WI, Peggy (Tom) Hagstrom of Washburn, WI, Tina (Gerry) Hoffman of Ashland, WI, and Melody McDonald of Mason, WI. A host of extended family and friends, both in the US and in Norway, join in the celebration of his life and in mourning his loss.
