James Horton

Jim Horton, 66, Silver Bay, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center.

He was born December 3, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa and moved to Silver Bay in 1957. Jim graduated from William Kelley High School in 1966 and then from West Point Military Academy in 1971. After retiring from the U. S. Army in 1990, he moved back to Silver Bay and was employed at DM&IR Railroad and North Shore Mining as railroad engineer until retiring in 2007. Jim served on the Silver Bay City Council and was active in the development of the Silver Bay Marina.

He was a member of Silver Beaver Gun Club, American Legion, and Sychar Lutheran Church.

Jim enjoyed collecting knives and military memorabilia, fishing, hunting, and sports.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Donna and Marcel "Ted" Pingeon.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Brenda; a daughter, Amy (Darren) Matcham of Texas; brothers, Chuck ( Sandee ) of Excelsior, MN and Pat ( Lucy ) of Denver; and nephews and niece, Justin, Aaron, Stephanie, and Charlie.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Lunch will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
