Jim Hanson, 82, of Two Harbors died, Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Ecumen Scenic Shores.
He was born on September 7, 1936 to Arthur and Celia (Lee) Hanson in Knife River where he grew up and was a third-generation commercial fisherman. Jim married Pat Wallace on October 25, 1958 and together they made their home in Clover Valley and Knife River Valley ever since. Jim was also employed as a machinist for the DM&IR Railway, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Knife River Lutheran Church and enjoyed farming, raising beef cattle, woodworking, and mowing his lawn.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Hanson.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters Laura (Paul) Anderson of Hermantown, Carolyn (Clyde) Bergman of Two Harbors, Ann (Mike) Arneson of Chippewa Falls, WI, and Joan (Gary) Krecker of Turtle Lake, WI; sons, Eric (Viola) Hanson of Two Harbors and Chris Hanson of Grand Marais; 12 grandchildren; 3 foreign exchange student grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ella (Lyle) Jackson of Duluth, Susan (Del) Hubbartt of Knife River, and Annette (Curtis) Hammitt of Barnum; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Hanson of Two Harbors.
Jim’s family would like to thank the staff at Ecumen Scenic Shores for their loving care for the last 3 years and St. Luke’s Hospice for the last few days of his life.
Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Cavallin Funeral Home and will continue from 1 PM until the 2 PM Funeral on Sunday, May 19 at Knife River Lutheran Church.
