Hjalmer Nelson

Hjalmer M. Nelson 92, of Silver Bay, died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at the Sunrise Nursing Home in Two Harbors.

He was born January 1, 1918 to Arnt and Alma (Eggen) Nelson in Hersey, Wisconsin. Hjalmer's early life was spent farming and working with his brothers in the Nelson Brother Trucking Service. He married Lorraine Olson on January 20, 1951 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Baldwin. Hjalmer worked for Reserve Mining Company for almost 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church. His love of the outdoors gave him lots of enjoyment, including fishing, hunting, golfing, snow-sledding, and horseshoes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Vicki, grandson, Jack Barnes, four sisters, Anne, Amanda, Inez, and Annie, and six brothers, Nels, Peter, Edwin, Edmund, Arnt, and Norman.

Hjalmer is survived by his wife Lorraine, daughter, Mary (Ron) Hohman, three grandchildren, Emma and Sam Barnes, and Jamie Hohman; one great grandchild, Bella, brother, Lloyd, sister, Evelyn, brother-in-law, Jack, sisters-in-law, Darlene, and Arlene Nelson, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
