Herman Radeck

Herman P. Radeck, 100, Silver Bay, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home.

He was born February 14, 1917 to Herman Paul and Alma (Olesen) Radeck in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from Washington High School in 1934, Herman served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. From 1936 to 1940 he served in the US Navy, learning the trade of aircraft machinist on the USS Melville in San Diego, CA.  Returning to St. Paul, he married Marie Hughes on March 12, 1941.  During World War II he returned to the military serving in the US Army Air Corps from 1943-46 in Italy. After the war, Herman returned to St. Paul and worked as a machinist and attended North Central Bible Institute.  Graduating from NCBI with a three-year diploma, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1974 with a degree in education.  Herman worked as a substitute teacher for the White Bear Lake School District and as a machinist until retiring in 1979.  Herman and Marie made their home in Silver Bay since 1991.

Herman is recorded in the WW II Registry of Remembrances and was active at the Beaver Bay Assembly of God.  He enjoyed gardening, traveling, writing poetry, and spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 71 years, Marie; and siblings Anna Wilson, Florence Watson, Edith Rickard, Arnold and Joseph Radeck.

Herman is survived by his son Herman Jr. (Anabeth) of Anderson, Indiana; a brother James Radeck of Seattle, Washington; a granddaughter, Rebecca (Timothy) McClintick of Pendleton, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Beaver Bay Assembly of God in Beaver Bay.  Burial will be at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery, Beaver Bay Twp.
