Herbert Pierson

November 28, 1928 — October 26, 2015

Herb Pierson, 86, of Duluth Township, died peacefully Monday, October 26, 2015 at his home.

He was born on November 20, 1928 to Oliver and Mary (Lombardy) Pierson in Duluth, where he grew up and attended schools.  After high school Herb served in the Marine Reserves for two years, until being drafted into the U. S. Army.  He served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Herb married Alvera Anderson on July 12, 1952 and was discharged from the Army in December 1952.  He was employed by Kelley-Howe-Thompson in Duluth for several years then went to work for Bridgeman’s until his retirement as operations manager in 1984.

After retiring, Herb and Alvera were winter Texans for many years returning to the North Shore in 1999.  Herb enjoyed golf, fishing, and watching TV sports, but his greatest joy was time spent with family and traveling with Alvera. He was an active member of French River Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Red Caps (Lester Park Men’s Golf).

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alvera; children, Dave (Kathy) Pierson, Jeff (Barb) Pierson; Lynne (Doug) Compton, Claire (Boyd Hanson) Pierson, and Brita (Andy) Aug; grandchildren, Andrea, Bethany, Derek, Jennifer, Julia, Laura, Daniel, Caroline, Courtney, Devyn, and Elizabeth;       8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Winnie) and Larry; many special nieces and nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to French River Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday, October 30, 2015 at French River Lutheran Church, 5310 Ryan Rd. Duluth.  Burial will be at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery, Palmers.
