Helen Maki

Helen E. Maki, 94, Brimson, died Saturday April 13, 2019 at Bayshore Health in Duluth.

She was born November 30 1924 to Sylvester and Lizzie (Ranua) Tapio in Meadow Township in Wadena County, Minnesota.  Helen married Martin Jacob Maki in Cleveland, Ohio on January 21, 1942. While they lived in Duluth Heights, she was employed by St. Louis County. They moved to Beverly Hills, California in 1965, and in the early 1980's, retired to Brimson.

Helen really enjoyed making new recipes and trying them out on Martin and other family members.  She spent many hours canning fruit and vegetables from her garden and making new desserts.  Helen liked to make ceramic items and completed some very nice ones.  She liked to sew and finished some beautiful needlecraft pictures.  In her younger years she enjoyed golfing and bowling.  Most of all, Helen enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and her great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Martin; a brother Arnold Tapio, and sisters Beatrice and Mabel.

Helen will be sadly missed by her only son Jerry and daughter-in-law, Noreen; her only granddaughter, DeBora (Charles) Bernick and her only great-grandson, Charles Bernick III; a brother Melvin (Elsie) Tapio; and many nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at Brimson Cemetery.
