Hazel Peterson

December 5, 1928 — February 10, 2013

Hazel E. Peterson, 84, Two Harbors, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born December 5, 1928 and grew up in Duluth, one of 4 daughters and 2 sons. In 1948, Hazel married MelRoy (Pete) Peterson in Cloquet. After his training to become a MN State Patrol, they moved to Grand Marais. In 1953, they made their home in Two Harbors.

They enjoyed their many friends, square dancing, social occasions, antiquing, and making homemade root beer. Hazel and Pete loved and always owned dogs, Boxers were their favorite.

Hazel was known for her beautiful sewing and knitting, many times making clothes to donate. She also kept busy cooking, especially her rye bread.

Hazel was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She loved to play music and was an accomplished accordion player. She later took up the violin and played in a quartet with friends. Hazel had a close circle of lifetime friends end enjoyed their company and going to coffee club. She was also kept company by her dog, Bingo and her cat.

This past December she attended her first lutefisk dinner, her only comment, "... the meatballs were very good".

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband MelRoy in 2005, and her sisters and brothers.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Donna), Ronald (Judy), Jeff (Judy) and Robert; daughters, Linda Peterson, Becky Holley, and Kim Craig; grandchildren, Dustin, Adam, Ben, Ann, Sean, Nathan, Alex, Adrienne, India, Nathaniel and Riviera.

Visitation will be from 11 AM until the Noon service on February 15, 2013 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery.
