Harvey Morck

August 22, 1925 — September 16, 2022

Grand Marais

Harvey Roy Morck, age 97, died peacefully on September 16, 2022 with his family by his side at the Waterview Shores Care Center in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Harvey was born in Superior, Wisconsin on August 22, 1925 to Helga (Karlsen) and Lars Morck, joining his sister Daisy. Helga later married Victor Skoog, and his brother Ken Skoog later joined the family. They farmed and logged on the homestead west of Grand Marais near the Bally Creek Road.

Harvey graduated from Cook County High School in 1943. After graduation, Harvey was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy and served onboard the USS Sargent Bay (CVE‐83). Following the end of World War II, Harvey returned home to work skidding pulp with his father Victor, as well as several other jobs in the Grand Marais community. Eventually he began to work for his uncle, Bernard Skoog, and became a mason, laying blocks and building rock fireplaces and homes.

Harvey married Marie Hansen on September 22, 1951. He then joined Isak, Irving, and Marland Hansen in the family business at Isak Hansen & Sons. They built homes and other projects in the Lutsen and Caribou Lake area for more than 50 years.

Harvey and Marie, together with the help of family and friends, built the house where Harvey lived in Grand Marais. In 1953 their son Richard Harvey was born, followed by Rolf Gregory in 1956, and Jeffrey Jon in 1966. Harvey’s family enjoyed being outdoors, canoeing the Boundary Waters, skiing at Lutsen, ice fishing, boating, and spending time at their cabin on Devil Track Lake. Gatherings with family and friends were fun and joyful times.

Harvey lived with quiet sophistication. He was an avid reader who loved history and archeology. He lived with gentleness and purpose, loving his family, enjoying life‐long friendships, serving his community in many ways, and letting the quality of his work speak for him. Harvey will be deeply missed but leaves a legacy of kindness, honesty and a life guided by his faith. His was a life to emulate.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Marie, who died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by his sister Daisy and brother Kenny, his brother‐in‐law Irving Hansen, niece Janette Strathy, as well as his parents.

Harvey is survived by his three sons, Richard, Rolf, and Jeffrey; Richard and Vicki’s children, Lindsey O’Connor, Leah Morck, and Garrett Morck; Rolf and Amy’s children, Christopher and Jonathan; Jeffrey and Lisa’s child, Breanna; Christopher and Sisomphone’s children (Harvey’s great grandchildren) Marie and Isak; and Lindsey and Brendan’s child (Harvey’s great grandson) Afton. He is also survived by sister‐in‐law Sue Hansen, siblings‐in‐law Marland and Nancy Hansen, his nieces and nephews, and his many dear friends.

Harvey’s family would like to thank the staff at Waterview Shores Care Center, the staff of Moments Hospice for their care for Harvey in his last days, and especially the Grand Marais and

Lutsen communities for being the people with whom Harvey lived so long and so well. Thanks to Pastor Kris Garey and the congregation at Bethlehem for their care and ministry to Harvey and Harvey’s family, and to the Cavallin Funeral home for their assistance.
