Harlan Soderberg, 86, Two Harbors, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay.
He was born May 21, 1927 to Einar and Anna (Fredson) Soderberg in Two Harbors, where he grew up and attended schools. During World War II he served in the U. S. Navy, and after the war returned to Two Harbors to work as a machinist for the D M & I R Railroad. After working for 15 years, the railroad shut down and he worked for the City of Two Harbors Gas Department and Abex Corporation for several years. He returned to the railroad to work for another 15 years, before retiring in 1991.
Harlan was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, and Explorer Scout Leader.
He enjoyed golf, curling, fishing, and hunting. He was a good-natured and kind-hearted man, who was loved by those who knew him.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirlie and Alf Swanson.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; a daughter, Lynne (Bob) Swanson of Edinburg, Texas; stepdaughter, Janet (Duane) Kronlund, and step-son James (Sherrie) Nicolaison all of Two Harbors; step-grandchildren, Renae (Chris) Snyder, Robyn and Chris Nicolaison, Curtis (Becca) Kronlund; step-great-grandchildren, Hayden and Kelsey Snyder, Alexander and Elin Kronlund. a brother, Dale Soderberg, and nieces and nephews
Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Lake County Foodshelf.
