HARLAN ROGERS
Harlan Rogers, 80, of Silver Bay, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born on August 19, 1931 to David and Hazel (Mizer) Rogers in Barron, Wisconsin, where he grew up and graduated from high school and was a star football player. He drove milk and beer truck for Victor French for two years, before enlisting in the Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier Essex during the Korean Conflict. Harlan married Jean Hodgson on July 14, 1956 in Dallas, Wisconsin and they moved to Silver Bay later that year. Harlan was employed as a lab technician at Reserve Mining Company until retiring in 1989.
Harlan was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church and the VFW in Duluth. He enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, camping with his family and polka dancing, and loved the Green Bay Packers
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bud; a sister, Eileen; and a daughter-in-law, Penny.
Harlan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean; a son, David of Silver Bay daughters, Shelly Rogers of Silver Bay and Gayl (David) Wacker of Pine, Colorado; grandchildren, Zeb, Brandon, and Brent; a sister-in-law, Carna Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM memorial service on Thursday May 10, 2012 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
