It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of my dear Dad, our Opa, Glen Carlson at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth, from injuries sustained in a car accident on January 13. Glen has been a long time resident of Silver Bay, where he loved to live and he loved the people. He served in WW II and the Korean War. While stationed in Salzburg, Austria, he met his Schotz, Terry and they married in 1953. He also inherited two daughters, Brigitte and Elfi. They lived happily in Silver Bay until Mom's sudden death in 1989. Elfi predeceased him suddenly in 1996. Also his parents, two brothers and sister.
He is survived by his daughter Brigitte from Winnipeg, Canada; grandchildren Mike (Carol), Cindy (Dennis), David (Irene), Joni (Tim), and Debbie (Rick); Great grandchildren Carly (Shawn), Chandra, Derek, Shane (Jessica), Danielle, Kristofer, and Kaitlin; great great granddaughter Lyla; sister Elaine; nieces Gaylene and Joyceln, and many more.
He loved working with his hands, woodworking, making special little things for his family and friends. He drove for meals on wheels and did many various things in town. Silver Bay was his home, his family was his love. He also loved to travel.
God bless all the dear nurses and doctors, and the pastor at St. Lukes ICU 6W. Thanks for caring.
No farewells were spoken, No time to say goodbye, You were gone before we knew it, And only God knows why. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God took you home. For your smile is gone forever, And your hand I cannot touch, We will never lose the memory, Of one we loved so much.
Visitation will be from noon until the 1 PM Memorial Service Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay.
