GLADYS MILDRED HIMANGO

Gladys M. Himango, 90, formerly of Two Harbors, passed away on Sunday March 13, 2011 in the Golden Living Center East in Rochester, Minnesota.

Gladys was born January 1, 1921 in Cloquet, Minnesota to Alfred and Grace (Garrett) Arthur. Her childhood interests included running track, dancing and spending memorable days with her friends and relatives. She became a voracious reader and was proud of her in home library. She found time for reflection and joy when working on her lawn and beautifully manicured flower gardens.

Shortly after her marriage to William E. Himango on November 16, 1940 she moved to Virginia, Minnesota, where she established many lifelong friendships. She and Bill found their permanent residence in Two Harbors, Minnesota where she loved her work at Engstrom's IGA, in addition to working as a dispatcher for the Cooperative Light and Power Association. She and Bill where very active in their local Episcopal Church and later were devout parishioners of St Edward's Episcopal Church in Duluth. She cherished special friendships with her neighbors Larry and Mary Antonich and Henry and Terry Carlson, who maintained her home in her absence. Her true affection for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews was always evident from her smile and joyous reminiscence.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, brothers Lloyd and Howard and sister, Ethel "Bessie" Golen.

Gladys is survived by her sons, James of Rochester, and William of Duluth; grandchildren Stephanie of Chicago and Shannon (Missy) and great-grandchildren, Morgan and Peyton of Levelland, Texas. Her last days were spent near her devoted son, Jim, who was always at her side.

Gladys' family would like to thank the personnel at Golden Living Center East in Rochester and Barross Cottage in Two Harbors for their kindness and loving care.

Visitation - Noon until the 1 PM service on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, followed by burial in Maple Grove Cemetery in Coquet.
