Gilbert O. Pierce, 89, of Two Harbors, died on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at home.
Gilbert was born to Henry and Maude (Taylor) Pierce in Pierson, Iowa on May 10, 1931. He grew up in central Minnesota and worked on the family farm before serving in the Army during the Korean War. He married Joan Harstad in Verndale, MN on April 16, 1955, and they moved to the North Shore. Gilbert was employed by Reserve Mining for 31 ½ years until his retirement.
He enjoyed RV travel touring the country with the Honey Bees Camping Club, and winters spent in San Benito, Texas during retirement. It was during one of his winters in Texas that Gilbert met Nancy and they were married on May 22, 2016. Gil also enjoyed his trips to Alaska to visit his brothers and in 2019 he was able to take the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. which was very meaningful to him.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; a son, David and his wife, Nancy; sister, Liz Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Pam Pierce; grandson, Eric Olson; and step-grandson, Christian Groleau.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Cal (Rita) and Mark; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bruce (Gayle), James, Earl, and Alvin (Martha); sister, Mary Ault; and Nancy’s daughters, Mary Lee (Dan) Barker, Jean Butler, and Charlotte (Jim) Groleau.
A private service will be held. A public visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at First Baptist Church at 602 15th Ave in Two Harbors. A recording of the service may be found on the First Baptist Church Facebook page. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.
