Gerry Baumann, 95, of Two Harbors died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Lake View Memorial Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born on August 13, 1921 to Herman and Josephine (Mazurak) Matushek in Chicago, IL where she grew up, graduating from Lindblom High School in 1939. Gerry worked in Chicago and met her future husband, Elroy Baumann in 1949 on a weekend getaway to Delevan, WI. They were married on May 27, 1950 at St. Gall’s Church in Chicago. After moving to Harvard, Gerry and Elroy raised a family and spent the next 62 years together in the home they built. Gerry worked at Starline Inc. in the accounting department until her retirement in 1986.
She moved to Ecumen Assisted Living in October 2016 and spent 3 great months enjoying all the other residents and being close to family.
Gerry loved dancing, music, and playing the piano. She was a founding member of the Milk Center Squares and was always a willing partner in whatever adventure her husband got excited about. Gerry loved her card club and all the dinners. In their retirement, Gerry and Roy travelled extensively.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of the Women of the Moose. Gerry worked many years for the food shelf and helped Roy plan many Golden Ager trips.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Elroy; daughter, Gail Baumann; 6 brothers; and 4 sisters.
Gerry is survived by sons Paul (Jill) Baumann of Two Harbors and Alan (Ginny) Baumann of Idleyld Park, OR; grandchildren, Jeremy Prewitt, Willow (Nathan) Willis, and Holly (Eric) Calderon; great-grandchildren Leif, Astrid, Eadric, and Edwin Willis, Gabriel Calderon, and Chance Olsen; all of OR; grandchildren Ryan Buerke, Krista Buerke, and great-grandchildren Anthony and Desiree Braun of MN.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 PM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Harvard Sportsman’s Club in Harvard, IL. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Harvard, IL.
