George Davis

George “Slim” Davis, 90, formerly of Canyon, died Sunday January 18, 2015 in Florida.
He was born February 29, 1924 to Luther and Sophie (Barker) Davis in Robeson County, North Carolina. He grew up in North Carolina and served in the US Navy Reserve during WWII. He was employed as a seaman first on ocean-going vessels, then for most of his career on the Great Lakes. He moved to Minnesota in 1951 and retired in 1983. He was a member of the VFW in Florida.
He is preceded in death by parents, wife Lorna in 1984, and step-sons Raymond and Kenneth Strand.
He is survived by sons, Dale (Pat) Davis of Canyon, Jack and James Davis both of Biwabik; daughters, Darleen (Mike) Graden of Two Harbors and Connie (Ken) Swanson of Sherman, Texas; step-children Geraldine Anderson of Duluth, Judith (Walter) Hammer of Bagley; sister, Sarah Singletary; 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at Sunrise Memorial Park, Duluth. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors.
