Gene R. Magnuson, 76, of Two Harbors, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in St Luke's Hospital surrounded by family.
He was born August 20, 1937 to Eugene and Lilly (Maja) Magnuson in Two Harbors where he was a life-long resident. After graduating from high school in 1955, Gene obtained his Bachelor's degree from UMD and later received his Master's degree in Physics from UWS. He worked in the family's construction business before accepting a teaching position in Superior. After 4 years in Superior, a position opened in Two Harbors and he was able to teach math and science for Lake Superior School District until his retirement.
Gene loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, and concerts. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, golfing, and carving. He was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Men's Brotherhood and Sunday night Bible study, and also the Bob Beatty Carving Club. Gene was also proud of the 6 years he served his country as a member of the National Guard.
Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years Sandra; children and their spouses, Michael and Marcia Magnuson of Hutchinson, Laurie and Scott Adams of Two Harbors, and Susie and Mat Siekkinen of Hibbing; grandchildren, Jon and Tim Magnuson, Jeffrey and Katelyn Adams, and Austin, Alissa, Brooke, and Ty Siekkinen; and a brother, Rick (Barbara) Magnuson of Two Harbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Defibrillator Fund and the Two Harbors Public Library.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Service on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors.
