Gary Swanson

Gary N. Swanson, 82, Two Harbors, died on Christmas Day December 25, 2020 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center after a one year battle with lung cancer.

Gary was born May 8, 1938 to John and Norma (Carlson) Swanson in Braham, MN, grew up in Larsmont, and graduated from Two Harbors High School in the Class of 1956. Gary married Carol Carlson on April 30, 1966 and they made their home and rasied their family in Two Harbors.  Gary started working construction right after high school and a short time later joined the Plasterer’s Apprenticeship Program.  As a journeyman plasterer, he worked for various construction companies until 1979, when he started Gary Swanson Construction.

Gary was a member of the United Church and the Northshore Tractor Club.

He enjoyed golf, reading, his hobby farm and tractor collection, and his grandsons’ hockey games.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ardell.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Chris and Greg (Shelli) Swanson; daughter, Beth Swanson; grandsons, Jake and Nate; brothers, Dennis (Jan) and Eldon Swanson; sisters, Sharolyn Blanchard and Marlys Wisch; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be from Noon until 3 PM on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Cavallin Funeral Home with COVID Protocols.
