Fred Hall, 100, of Brimson, died Thursday, November 26, 2015 in Two Harbors.
He was born April 6, 1915 to Arvid and Anna (Talvitie) in Brimson where he was a lifelong resident. He attended Bassett School and Petrell School #55. Fred was a self-employed logger and dirt contractor, and he worked on the construction of Reserve Mining Railroad and Mile Post 7. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, making maple syrup, and cutting and splitting firewood for his sauna.
Fred was a member of the Trico Oil Association for 36 years, Bassett Township Supervisor for 36 years, and was a US Forest Service Fire Warden for 65 years. He also served on the board of directors of Brimson Telephone Association, Brimson Co-op, Co-op Light & Power Company, United Power Association, and the Brimson Sportsman’s Club.
Fred will be remembered for his happy smile and twinkling eyes, and his kindness, generosity, and caring for others. He was a “Master Dozer Operator.”
Fred is preceded in death by his father, Arvid, mother, Anna and step-father, Jacob Hakala; brother, John Hall; sister, Lillie Halmet; wife, Aune; second wife, Helen; niece, Eleanor (Dave) Leinonen; and nephew, Dennis Hall.
He is survived by his son Ron, (Carla Kimball) Hall; daughter, Evelyn (David) Thompson; step-daughter, Kathy (Michael) Unger; granddaughters, Ronda (Andy) Bernard, and Nicole (Brian) Gallagher; great-grandchildren, Mathias, Emily, and Molly Bernard, and Finnegan and Brennan Gallagher; niece, Nancy (Cliff) Eng; and nephew, Marvin Hall.
Fred’s family would like to thank the staff of Barross Manor for letting Fred feel at home for the past three years and to St. Mary’s Home Hospice for their care for Fred in his final days.
Service will be held 11 AM Saturday December 19, 2015 at Bassett Town Hall.
