Fred F. Midbrod, 71, of Silver Bay died Friday, October 25, 2024 after a series of medical challenges over the last few years.
He was born February 7, 1953 in Two Harbors to Robert and Dorothy (Hereau) Midbrod, a commercial fishing family on the North Shore. Fred grew up and attended school in Silver Bay before enlisting in the US Army at the age of 18 in 1971, serving in Vietnam from 1972-1973. Fred experienced intense combat in Vietnam which forever changed him. After returning to the states Fred was able to bring his future wife from Vietnam. Kim and Fred shared many years together and raised two children. Fred and family returned to the North Shore often through the years.
In 1996, Fred married Verna Wick, living in the cities. Fred built a cabin on the Midbrod land at Palisade Head which was his place to come on weekends. Fred retired to his cabin around 2010, he found peace there.
Fred was a likable guy, all who knew him have stories to share. He especially enjoyed playing cards, watching Star Trek reruns and old movies with his pup, Muffy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy; brother, Ron; and nephews, Bruce and Jesse.
Fred is survived by his wife, Verna; daughter Suzy; grandson Nick; ex wife Kim; brother, Gary (Brenda), sisters, Cheri (Gary) Fletcher, Sandy Betzler (Buck Thompson), and Beth Kelly; many nieces and nephews and his dog, Muffy.
