Frank Wotring

Frank Wotring, 93, of Two Harbors died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

He was born May 11, 1917 to Clark and Mabel (Fix) Wotring in Hibbing. After graduating from McGregor High School in 1935, he served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Upon leaving the military, he worked in the refrigerator service business for 10 years until going to work for the Minnesota DNR Park Service. Frank worked at parks at Savanna Portage, Temperance River, Beaver Creek Valley in Caledonia, Split Rock Lighthouse, and Gooseberry Falls until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Castle Danger and the VFW in McGregor. Frank enjoyed writing, oil painting, fishing, whittling, and carving. He also enjoyed playing country music on the guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and drums.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mark.

Frank is survived by his wife Eleanor; a son Clark of Lakeville, MN; three daughters Laura (Ray) Chevalier of Pennsylvania, Ruth (Mike) Novack of Ham Lake, MN, and Barbara Nelson of Coleraine, MN; a sister Eileen Keen of McGregor; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 PM service Wednesday November 3, 2010 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Castle Danger. Graveside service with military honors will be at 11 AM Thursday, November 4, at Pine Needle Cemetery near McGregor.
