Frank L Carlson, 92, of Two Harbors, died Saturday, Dec 29th, at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors, MN, surrounded by family and friends.
Frank was born August 27th, 1926 to Carl and Queenie Carlson in Spencer, Iowa. Frank moved to Two Harbors as a child and grew up on a farm right outside of town. As a young man, he joined the Navy and was stationed in San Francisco until the war ended. He returned to Two Harbors and remained there for the rest of his life. He married Clara Highland in 1972. He had a love of the land, farming and watching the wildlife around his farm. His primary profession was as a fireman for the railroad. He also worked as a boiler operator for the City of Two Harbors, and the Lake County Highway Department.
Prior to retiring, Frank and Clara readied themselves for travel and fun. Down came the raspberry plants, and the hay making was turned over to the younger generation. Frank and Clara bought an RV and toured the country, enjoying the parks and meeting new people. They spent several winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama appreciating the warm winter weather.
Frank also had a love of service and spent time transporting burn victims through his association with the Shriners. He was a long-time member of the Masons where he peeled and chopped with the pastie crew. Frank also delivered Meals on Wheels.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Queenie Carlson; wife, Clara Highland Carlson; sister, LaVonne Carlson Olson; step-son and step-son-in-law, Dale Highland and Roger Carlstrom; and grandchild, Lance Carlstrom.
He is survived by his son, Ron Carlson; his stepchildren, Arlis Highland Carlstrom, Lyle (Laurie) Highland; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Frank is also survived by his brother, Henry (Terry) Carlson whose patience, understanding and unfaltering care enabled Frank to live at the farm to the last.
The visitation and service will be held in the Spring.
