Floyd “Babe” Kempffer, 86, Two Harbors, died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.
He was born September 28, 1931 to Howard and Pearl (Sutton) Kempffer in Two Harbors, where he was a lifelong resident. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Babe returned home and was employed as a telephone lineman for the DM&IR Railroad for several years. He then worked in maintenance for Reserve Mining Company and later Cyprus North Shore Mining for over 30 years. Babe also worked for many years at J&J Lumber and helped Bonnie at her clothing store – Bonnie’s Clothes Bar. He served his community on the Two Harbors Airport and Police Commissions for 30 years.
Babe enjoyed reading and anything to do with planes, time at the Marble Lake cabin with family and friends, and winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama for many years.
Babe is preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; son, Craig of Cloquet; daughters, Kelly (Keith) Huseby of Finland; and Rhonda (Matthew) Davis of Westminster, CO; sister, Karen Snider of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, April (Pedro) Sotomayor, Matthew (Katie) Huseby, Adam and Aaron Kempffer, Michael (Chelsea) Huseby, Amanda (Rob) Lindahl, and Marissa Davis; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Isabella, Sienna, Christopher, and twins Mason and Jace. He was also very close to many special nieces and nephews.
Babe’s family would like to thank the staff of the Minnesota Veteran’s Home for the amazing and loving care they provided for the past ten months.
Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM service on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
