Florence Johnson, 96, of Burnsville, formerly of Two Harbors, Superior, and Eagan, died peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at her home with her family at her side.
She was born on March 2, 1919 to Gilbert and Emma (West) Peterson in Two Harbors where she grew up and attended schools, graduating in 1937. On April 9, 1938 Florence married Vernon H. Johnson. Florence worked at Engstrom’s Grocery Store in Two Harbors, the Cloquet Hospital, Dr. O’Shanesse’s Dental Office in Superior, and lastly in real estate management in Duluth for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, weaving rugs, painting, pottery, and handwork- knitting afghans and crocheting.
Florence was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Homemaker’s Club, and the Superior Assemblies of God and Darrow Road Weslyan Methodist Churches.
Those preceding her death are her parents; husband of 70 years, Vernon; infant daughter, Janice Marie; brothers Raymond and William Peterson; and sister, Esther Nelson.
Florence is survived by son, Daniel (Rita) of Prescott, WI; daughters, Janet (Jeff) Mohr “formerly of Detroit Lakes”, Barbara (Jim) Klawitter-Follon, and Nancy (Wesley) Vagle all of Burnsville; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Otterblad; sister-in-law, Ellen Neufield; brother-in-law, Connie Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors.
