Flora M. Bracken, 88, of Two Harbors, MN, died September 17 at the Ecumen Scenic Shores Care Center in Two Harbors.
Flora was born on January 4, 1926, in Wells, Texas, the daughter of Amasa and Rhoda (Redd) Goodwin. She moved to Houston, Texas, in 1943 to work at Ellington Field Air Force Base, where she met her future husband, Douglas M. Bracken, who was in training to become a navigator in the Army Air Force. They were married October 23, 1945 when he returned from his tour of duty in China, Burma, and India. They moved to St. Paul, MN, where Douglas attended Hamline University and Flora worked at Economics Laboratories. She later worked at Miller Hospital and Crane-Ordby Plumbing. Flora was a long-time member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in St. Paul where she taught Sunday School. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and was active in Boy Scouts. In 1979, Douglas and Flora retired in Two Harbors, where she enjoyed gardening and preparing special treats when her children and grandchildren came to visit.
Flora is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas; sisters, Ella Mae Williams and Grace Rhodes; and brothers, Chester and John Goodwin. She is survived by sons Kenneth (Kim) Bracken of W. St. Paul and Charles (Jane) of Cannon Falls; grandchildren Kyle Bracken and Corey Bracken of Minneapolis, and Jenna (Andy) Held of South St. Paul; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Maddox, Charlie, and Mabel; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 11:00 am at Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors, MN. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
