Esther Olson

Esther Sophie Olson, 103, of Silver Bay passed away on August 3, 2022 at Carefree Living.

She was born in Gonvick, Minnesota, on June 30, 1919 to Ole and Betsy Dahl.  Esther was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  She married Tenny L. Olson of Trail, Minnesota on December 19, 1943 and they had two sons, Gary, and David. In 1956 they moved to Silver Bay, where Esther worked as a cook’s helper in Campton School and Kelley High School.

Esther was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary, Golden Agers, and Sychar Quilters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Tenny; sons, David, and Gary; a sister Dora (Bert) Hughes, brother Gilman (Gayle), brother Francis (Yvonne), and sister Phyllis (Bob) Wilcox; a great grandson, Peyton Olson; and many nieces and nephews.

Esther is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sharon; her seven grandchildren, Cary, Carmen, Chad, Camille, Chris, Cory, and Cameron, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Esther’s family would like to give a big thank you to North Woods Family Grille for the meals they generously delivered Esther each Wednesday over the last couple years, a deep appreciation to the staff at Carefree Assisted Living and Essentia Hospice for the personal care and warm compassion they provided Esther in her last few months and final days.
