Ernest Engebretson

October 13, 1921 — February 18, 2015

Ernest Engebretson, 93, formerly of Silver Bay, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

He was born October 13, 1921 to Otis and Mary (Baker) Engebretson in Webster, Wisconsin where he grew up and attended schools. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in England. He married Phyllis Shull in 1946 and they moved to Silver Bay in 1956 where he was employed as a millwright at Reserve Mining Company until retiring in 1984.

Ernie enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking and after retiring enjoyed many winters in Yuma, Arizona. He was a member of the United Protestant Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Silver Bay.

After Phyllis’ death in 1979, Ernie married Millie Ringling in 1981, and they spent nearly 20 years together until Millie’s death in 2000.

He is survived by two sons, Bernard (Caroline) of South Dakota, and Randy (Gail) of Lake Nebagamon; three daughters, Christine (Dennis) McDermott of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Connie (Maynard) Manke of Thief River Falls, and Lori (Jeff) Hunter of Cloquet; a step-daughter, Carol Linneman of Ely; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Engebretson; and sisters, Lorraine (Glen) Crosby and Irene (Richard) Sahr.

Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM service on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Silver Bay Cemetery.
