Elwood Youngberg, 89, of Silver Bay died Monday, June 13, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital after suffering complications from a stroke.
He was born on December 10, 1932 to Frederick and Mary (Blowers) Youngberg in Duluth, where he grew up and attended Duluth Cathedral High School. Elwood worked for Duluth Universal Flour for several years and in 1955 moved to Silver Bay, where he was employed by the City of Silver Bay in the water department for 35 years, until his retirement in 1994.
In his spare time Elwood enjoyed archery, golfing, and karate, in which he earned his black belt, and proudly served for 21 years in the Minnesota National Guard. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Elwood was preceded in death by a son, Teddy.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carol; children, Annette (Manley), Julie, and Joe (Sarah); daughter-in-law, Sarah; 4 grandchildren, Tina, Katie, Daniel, and Matthew; several great-grandchildren; and siblings, John, Carol, and Joan.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay.
