Eileen Zemlin

d. May 27, 2016

EILEEN CAROL “Link” Lindquist ZEMLIN, 85, formerly of Champaign, Illinois passed away May 27, 2016. She was a graduate of Two Harbors High School in Two Harbors, MN, class of 1948.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.  Eileen was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Urbana-Champaign, Illinois for over 50 years.  She was a devoted choir member for the church and a socially conscious equal rights advocate promoting love, compassion, intellectual and spiritual growth within her community.  Her accomplishments in the field of special education and speech therapy are a testament to her inherent concern for improving the quality of life for those challenged by learning disabilities.  She was the co-author of the Study Guide/Workbook to her husband’s textbook, Speech and Hearing Science: Anatomy and Physiology, Fourth Edition.  Eileen’s zest for life, keen mind, and social prowess made a lasting impression with all who worked with her in her many civic endeavors.  She was an accomplished musician, cook, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, community volunteer and friend. Her commitment to social justice and the Unitarian Universalist church was matched by her love of spending time with her friends and family in the great north woods of Minnesota. Eileen’s love for life is evident in all those who were blessed to have known her.  She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Simon and Anna Lindquist, and her loving childhood sweetheart and husband of 44 years, W.R.(Bill) Zemlin. She is survived by her daughter, Therese Zemlin and her husband John Schulz; son Karl Zemlin and his wife Nancy Wiseman and their two daughters Ellen Zemlin and Caroline Zemlin; son Joseph Zemlin and his wife JungShik (Shike) Zemlin and their three children Julia Williams, Johnathan Zemlin, and Jasmine Zemlin.
