Dorothe Ann (Skaar) Vaughan, Age 98 of Grand Marais, MN
Dorothe was born on November 12, 1916 to Hjalmer and Anna (Hohman) Skaar in Saint Paul, MN. She died peacefully on February 2, 2015 in Grand Marais, MN. She was preceded in death by her siblings Florence, Charles and William. Survived by sister Jean Ritland of AZ, children Mary Kay Vaughan, John Vaughan and wife Debbie, Patrick Vaughan and wife Barbara, grandchildren Greg Kurtz and wife Pam, Kathleen Cramer, Angela Vaughan, Jon Vaughan, Tore Stella, Nicole Bennis and husband Adam, Patrick (PJ) Vaughan and wife Laura, Meaghan and Kirsten Vaughan, 13 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great, Great Grandchildren, special friend and sister-in-law, Muriel Vaughan and special “adopted” daughter Beth Pillar.
Dorothe grew up in Saint Paul, where she attended school, including art school, made her home, married Patrick J. Vaughan and she raised their children. Dorothe was employed as a proof-reader and lino-type operator at Brown and Bigelow for 34 years. In 1995 she moved to Grand Marais and loved living in nature and loved the beautiful community with the “nicest” people. She was an accomplished artist who starting painting at a young age and continued painting until less than a year ago. She won awards for her paintings and especially loved painting all woods and water in nature and Native American Dancers. Her paintings will continue to delight all for many years!
She was a member of St John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais, and the Typographical Union #30.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 14, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais. Private interment will be in St John’s Cemetery, Grand Marais. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 21, with visitation at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am, at the Church of St Peter, 2600 N Margaret St, North Saint Paul, MN.
