Doris Vincent, 87, died Saturday, September 28, 2019 in Mille Lacs Health, Senior Care Unit in Onamia.
Doris was born and raised in a small but quaint mining town in upstate New York. Doris grew up in a close loving family, with 2 brothers and 5 sisters, attending grade school and high school at Lyon Mountain School. Doris met Charlie while he worked for Republic/Armco Steel in the underground iron mine in Lyon Mountain after World War II. Doris and Charlie married in Lyon Mountain on June 30, 1951 and moved to Babbitt in 1952, being transferred with the onset of the taconite industry. While living in Babbitt, Deborah and William were born and in 1955 the young family moved to Silver Bay where David, Richard, and Sandy were born. The family resided in Silver Bay over the next 31 years, then Doris and Charlie moved to Beulah, North Dakota, residing there 7 years then returning to Silver Bay. In 2013 Doris and Charlie moved to Hillcrest in Hibbing residing there until 2018, when Charlie passed away and Doris moved to Greenview.
Doris was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she taught catechism and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of sewing club, the Silver-Beaver Trap Club and was a Cub Scout and Brownie leader.
An awesome cook, Doris also enjoyed baking, knitting, crocheting, gardening and canning, fishing and camping with the family. She also enjoyed trapshooting, particularly when beating Charlie’s score from the line, and duck hunting with Bill and Beth in North Dakota.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; a sister, Reinette LaVigne; brothers, Norval and Nolan Kelly; her son, Richard Vincent; and a grandson, Benjamin Erickson.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Glenn) Kangas, William (Lori) Vincent, David (Kathy) Vincent, Sandra (Chuck) Palmquist and JoAnn Parnell; sisters, Fay (Joseph) Ashline, Trudy (Dr. John) Wandke, Kitty (Mike) Kierman, May (Lanny) LaValley; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 3, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Silver Bay Cemetery.
