Dora Sannes

Dora L. Sannes, 93, Two Harbors, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay.

She was born September 1, 1919 to George Dudley and Annie Mae (Bailey) Killebrew in Louisville, Georgia. On February 17, 1945, Dora married Carl A. Sannes Sr. in Eastman, Ga., near her home town and they returned to Carl's hometown of Beaver Bay, Minnesota in 1946. Soon after, they built and operated the Candlelight Motel and Cabins, located next to the Split Rock Lighthouse. In 1963, they built a home in Little Marais on the shores of Lake Superior. Since 2002, Dora has been a resident of Two Harbors. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting and oil and watercolor painting, which she shared with her family. Dora devoted her life to her family, as a wife and mother, and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sr., a daughter, Barbara Schrader, son-in-law, Dennis Kimball; sisters, Buena Lovingood and Muriel Godfrey; and brothers, Delas, Charles, and Johnny Killebrew.

Dora is survived by her children, Carla Kimball of Two Harbors, Carl A. Jr. (Peggy) Sannes of St. Paul, MN, Darlene (Vaughn) Hoff of Little Marais, and Lynn (Conrad) Schmid of Bemidji; brother, George (Rubye) Killebrew of Lakeland, FL; sisters-in-law, Doris Killebrew of Warner Robins, GA and Edna Killebrew of Newark, OH; grandchildren, Wade, Scott, Corey, Amy, Duane, Brian, Jessica, Jennifer, and Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Heather, Robbie, Stephanie, William, Adam, Josephine, Lain, Trevon, Kian, Dwayne, Malik, D'Andre, Elle, Carlton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. A gathering of family and friends for a luncheon will follow the service in the great room of the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed for the Silver Bay Minnesota Veteran's Home, 45 Banks Blvd, Silver Bay, MN 55614.
