Donald Hedin, 84, formerly of Silver Bay, died after a long illness on March 26, 2017 at The Fountains Assisted Living Facility in Lakeville, MN.
He was born on February 4, 1933.
Preceded in death by parents Helmer and Helen Hedin, and brother Roger.
He was born and raised in Two Harbors, served in the U.S. Army for two years, and graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He married Glenda Zimmerman and raised three children in Silver Bay. Donald worked at Reserve Mining for 30 years, ending his career as Assistant Treasurer. He then worked for the City of Silver Bay as City Clerk for five years. Following a stroke in 2014, he and Glenda moved to an assisted living facility in the Twin Cities area to be close to their children and grandchildren.
Donald’s life revolved around taking care of and providing for his family. He treasured family time at the cabin, fishing in the summer and hunting in the fall. After retirement, he and Glenda enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad.
He is survived by his beloved wife Glenda, his children Melissa (Eric) Ruud of Savage, Timothy Hedin of Oakdale and Curtis Hedin of Richfield; his grandchildren Benjamin, Kayla, Jessica and Jacob; and brother Kenny of Two Harbors.
A funeral will be held at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay on Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will be at the Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
