Dennis Chandler

June 21, 1946 — September 10, 2013

Dennis Eugene Chandler "Chick" 67, died September 10, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.

He was born June 21, 1946, the son of Richard and Caroline (Leemans) Chandler.

Dennis was born and raised in Two Harbors. After graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country from 1964-1970. He was a Machinist Mate on fast attack nuclear submarines.

After his service in the navy he attended St Cloud Technical College. He moved back to Two Harbors and began his long career working for the City of Two Harbors as Superintendent of Gas & Water. He retired in 2004 after 33 years.

Dennis was an avid fisherman. He spent time at his secret fishing holes and made numerous fishing trips with friends throughout Northern Minnesota and Canada. In 1981 he caught a record lake trout off of Isle Royal. It weighed 46 lbs and measured 46".

Dennis enjoyed spending time at the Senior Citizen Workshop. He was a true craftsman and did amazingly detailed inlaid woodwork. If the fish weren't biting, you could always find him chopping wood for his meticulous woodpile or tending his flower garden.

Dennis had many friends who cherished his sense of humor and his generous heart. His award winning smile was infectious and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Michael.

He is survived by his daughter Charity Ellestad (Bradly Anderson) of Minneapolis, MN, a number of cousins, and a multitude of friends and extended family.

Funeral Services are at Cavallin Funeral Home at 11am, Monday September 16, 2013. Military Funeral Honors will be performed at the Two Harbors American Legion immediately following the service. Friends and family are encouraged to gather and share lunch and stories afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Dennis with a donation to the Two Harbors Senior Citizen Workshop.
