Two Harbors

Delores Darlene Twining of Two Harbors, died Friday, August 30, 2024 at Aspirus-St. Luke’s Hospital at the age of 89, with her loving husband and family at her side.

She was born to Ernest and Leona Furchtenicht on January 22, 1935 and grew up on a dairy farm near Shell Lake, WI. After graduating from high school in 1953, Delores went to work as a secretary with the Wisconsin Conservation Department in Spooner, WI.

Delores and Bill were married on April 16, 1955 and a year later went to work for Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay. In 1959 they moved to Two Harbors. She worked part time jobs while the boys were growing up. Delores enjoyed gardening and yard work, especially flowers. In 1981 she went to work as secretary to the Lake County Board of Commissioners, retiring in 1998.

Delores was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and it peacemakers quilting groups for a number of years during retirement.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bill; sons Bob of Duluth and Steven (Lauri) of Two Harbors; granddaughters Stevie and Carly Twining; sister, Betty (Pete) Hubin of Spooner, WI; Bill’s brother Gary (Lucille) Twining; and nieces and nephews.

Delores’ family would like to thank the Waterview Shores Assisted Living staff for their care.

Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
