David Jackson, 64, of French River, died Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born on November 27, 1954 to Helge and Svea (Sundstrom) Jackson in Duluth. As was tradition in his family, David worked as a paper boy for the Duluth News Tribune starting at age 11. He graduated from Clover Valley High School in 1974, part of the last class before it closed. David married Laurie Salakka on December 3, 1977. He was employed at Reserve Mining and the DNR Hatchery in French River before going to work for the Duluth News Tribune in 1985. David retired as foreman of the printing press in 2005 after health concerns left him unable to work.
David enjoyed being outdoors; fishing and ice fishing. He loved cooking, gardening, history, trivia, and was an avid dog lover. But what meant the most to him was family and grandchildren and the time he was able to spend with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janice Olsen and Phyllis Olmstead; brothers, Martin, Hilding “Bernie”, Phillip, and Ronald; a daughter, Aime Leigh; parents-in-law, George and Delores Salakka.
Dave is survived by his wife, Laurie; daughters Marissa and Miranda; grandchildren McKinley, Leif, and Emmalynne; brothers, Gerald (Jeanette), Robert (Barbara), and Leslie (Carol); brothers-in-law, Keith Olsen and Tom Olmstead; sisters-in-law, Avis Jackson, Pat Jackson-Flatt, and Delores Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family of he and Laurie, and friends.
