Darrel Coleman Sr., 86, formerly of Two Harbors died Sunday, December 20, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Andover.
He was born on May 28, 1929 to Lewis and Edith (Nelson) Coleman in Dassel, MN. He grew up and attended schools in the Dassel/Benson area, then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. While in the military, he met Bettie in Florida. They returned to Minnesota and moved to the North Shore in 1955. Darrel was employed by Reserve Mining Company for 16 years, and later worked for Contel and as a jailer/dispatcher for the Lake County Sheriff. His love was owning and operating Coleman Bait and Tackle for over 20 years.
An avid outdoorsman, Darrel enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, trapping, and agate hunting always with his family. He was also an excellent fast-pitch softball player and ping-pong player. Go Twins! SKOL Vikings!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie.
Darrel is survived by his companion Lola Esterly; a son, Darrel Jr. “Mike” of Silver Bay; daughters, Cheryl Melhouse of Goodhue, Judy (Terrance) Jacobsen of Andover, and Trudy Coleman of Valencia, CA; brothers, Dean and James; sisters Jackie and Mary Lou; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until 11 AM Wednesday at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, followed by military honors and burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.
