Darold E. Rosbacka, age 85, peacefully passed away at home in Grand Marais on Monday, December 30, 2024. He was born to Urho and Hilma Rosbacka in Cloquet, Minnesota, on January 20, 1939. Darold graduated from Cloquet High School in 1957 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies with a minor in Physical Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He began his teaching career at Cook County High School, later obtained a Masters in Education, and retired from CCHS in 1998.
Throughout his life, Darold was actively involved in the community, by volunteering on several boards and serving in elected office. His favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting, baking bread, and spending quality time at the Happy Shack on Clearwater Lake.
Darold is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his sister, Karen Lindstrom; his sons, Mark and Kevin (Sandy); his daughter, Melissa (Dan); his grandchildren, Jake, Ben, Brady, Dana, Mac, Sadie, and Joe; and his great-grandson, Grant. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, LeAnn.
A Celebration of Darold’s life will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the celebration of life at 12:00 PM, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church for the position of a new Youth Director.
