Two Harbors

Darin G. Nelson died Monday, September 21, 2020, at his home in Two Harbors, MN, with his wife Carol, daughter Lisa and dog Rambo by his side.

Darin was born on December 1, 1936, to David and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Nelson in Carrington, ND.  He grew up in Grand Forks, ND, and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in mechanical and industrial engineering.  He enlisted in the Army in 1960 and was transferred to the critical skills program where he was project engineer for the construction of the first Atlas Missile Base outside of Topeka, Kansas.

Darin married Carol Rose on June 11, 1960, in Grand Forks, ND. They later moved to Bloomington, MN, where he worked for 30 years as a facilities manager for Control Data.  He loved to work and after he retired from Control Data, he had three more careers before his official retirement at age 78.  Throughout his life he enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends…traveling, camping, hiking, playing golf, volleyball, softball, and a variety of other outdoor activities…including riding his Harley.

Darin is survived by his wife, Carol, of 60 years; three children, Steve (Lisa) Nelson, Brian (Svetlana Kudimova) Nelson, Lisa Nelson; three grandchildren, Carrie (August) Judisch, Joe Nelson, Becky Nelson; one great grandchild, Kai Nelson Judisch; his sister, Sharon Erickson; and dog, Rambo.  He was preceded in death by his father, David Nelson and his mother, Elizabeth Nelson.

Join us to celebrate Darin’s life on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, 4:00-7:00 p.m., with memorial service starting at 5:00 p.m. at Gale Woods Pavilion, 7210 County Road 110 W., Minnetrista, MN 55364. Face masks and distancing protocols are required inside the building.
